We usually run welcome events at the beginning of the academic year including a Welcome Party and a Town Trail.
Our annual programme of spring and summer trips focus on local places of interest not easily accessible by public transport and relies on a team of volunteer drivers. Recent destinations have included Stoke Bruerne, a visit to historic Oundle, riverside walk and picnic at Olney, and a trip to Salcey Forest.
“FISH made me know more friends, had the opportunity to visit more interesting places, and had a deeper understanding of local life” International student, 2019
‘I never forget these joyful moments!’ Indian male postgraduate
We arrange or join in with various social events to give students an opportunity to mix with the local community and to help them discover more about our culture and English traditions. These have included Barn Dances (English folk dancing), a carol services, barbecues and an annual town trail.
FISH trips concentrate on local places of interest and beauty, offering you the chance to see more of our countryside, heritage, and rural village life. In order to keep the cost as low as possible, most transport is offered by volunteer members of FISH driving private cars. By taking part you accept a lift on a friendship basis and are invited to make a small voluntary contribution towards travel costs.
We also take part in other events /social action eg litter picking
